Well, for the past 35 years, I have helped stage concerts, in venues of every size and type, featuring some of the top entertainers in the fields of rock, pop, country, jazz, blues, in fact, just about every genre worth mentioning (and a few not worth mentioning!). I have worked as Production Manager or Stage Manager for clients that include some of the top promoters and event producers in the Western United States, providing stage management and production services for concerts featuring many of the world's top touring acts.
So, what does a Production Manager do?? Well, a Production Manager can do as much (or as little) as the client desires. For a typical production, I handle all advance work with the venue, ensuring that the event will have access to all the resources that it requires, such as facility staff, power, lighting, security, dressing rooms, hospitality areas, in short, everything the event producer needs for a successful production. I also handle all advance work with the artists, setting production schedules, catering schedules and menus, arranging for ground transportation and any other items or services required by the artist. Prior to the event, I ensure that all the technical requirements of the producer and the artist are met. Working with the lighting, staging, sound and labor contractors, I ensure that all the equipment and services that the event requires will be available on the day of the event. During the event I supervise all aspects of the set up and production. I am usually the first person to arrive and the last to go home.
